After a record-setting fundraising year in 2020, despite the country’s Covid shutdown, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is getting a new Executive Director. The event’s Board of Directors named Todd Nicklas as the new Executive Director in late 2020.

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, entering it’s 33rd year in 2021, is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the midwest each year. The races themselves take place at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill on Lake of the Ozarks every year in August. However, family friendly events all over the Lake of the Ozarks lead up to a weekend of the nation’s largest, fastest, speed boats competing for the annual “Top Gun Award”, the award given to the fastest overall boat of the weekend. The event draws thousands of spectators and boat racing teams and fans from all over the world. The neatest thing is, the event is a 5013-C that gives 100% of the events proceeds to local charities and fire departments around Lake of the Ozarks. To date, the event has raised millions of dollars including a record-setting $400,000 donated in 2020. To get a sneak-peak of what to Expect at the Shootout, check out the official recap video from 2020:

This will be the first time in 2 years the Shootout has an official “Executive Director” after the role was served by Shootout President Ron Duggan in 2020. “We were so fortunate with what we were able to accomplish in 2020 in giving back over $400,000 to our local charities and fire departments,” said Duggan. He added “Although myself along with the board did handle those responsibilities last year, we have big aspirations for the Shootout moving forward and felt this was a position we needed to add if we are going to accomplish our fundraising goals moving forward. We are very excited to announce Todd Nicklas as our new Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Executive Director.”

As for Nicklas, he is excited about the new opportunity. “I have always loved the Shootout and what it means for this community. It’s an honor to be able to work with this event and all of these incredible volunteers, sponsors, and members of the racing industry on behalf of our Lake of the Ozarks community,” Nicklas stated.

Nicklas is a long-time PGA golf professional, educator, mentor, coach, and brings customer relations, sales, and marketing experience from his days as a project manager for a major roofing company. Nicklas currently owns and operates “We Got This LOZ” which is a handy-man business servicing the entire Lake Area. Nicklas and his wife Jo Beth, who is an educator with the Camdenton School District, have 2 children and reside in Camdenton, Missouri. Nicklas has a wide resume that includes a Masters in Math Education from the University of Missouri, organizing major events, and even working with at-risk youth.

According to Duggan, Nicklas will begin his role immediately and focus on building relationships and learning the day-to-day of the event. He will also focus on preparing for the 33rd annual Lake of the Ozarks in August of 2021. The exact dates of the races are August 28th & 29th with mini events kicking off with the Mini Shootout Meet & Greet at Bridal Cave on Friday, August 20th.
